Day 19 ➡️ Budapest 23km The walk from Dogobo Day 19 ➡️ Budapest 23km

The walk from Dogoboko was quite steep but also extremely beautiful! I couldn’t wait to be back in the city and I imagined drinking a cafe latte near the river.

334km and 19 days later I walked to BUDAPEST!

Guess what I did when I arrived 😀

I am planning to take a rest day here and also to get a tent. The weather looks promising for the upcoming days. I am staying in the city center with my couchsurfing host and his apartment looks like Ciragan palace 😅

Day 18 ➡️ Dogoboko 21.5km Today was the most Day 18 ➡️ Dogoboko 21.5km

Today was the most exhausting day as I was walking 1,100m uphill. It was incredibly difficult but I really enjoyed the hiking trail though the forest.

There were some good views too! And I met a lot of hikers and cyclists. Great walk in nature. In Dogoboko I am staying in a yurt which is a great experience for me :)

See you tomorrow from Budapest!

Day 17 ➡️ Esztergom Today was a little bit o Day 17 ➡️ Esztergom

Today was a little bit of road walking but thanks to the weather it was not a big deal.

It’s been 17 days now and I think I got used to my routine by now. 10km before 10am and I usually arrive in town around 2pm which gives me enough time to work and rest

Since im gonna arrive in Budapest in 2 days - anybody wants to join me walking? 😅

See you tomorrow 🥰

Day 16 ➡️ Nyergesújfalu 18km Today was pret Day 16 ➡️ Nyergesújfalu 18km

Today was pretty cold and windy but the way wasn’t that long. A lot of road walking today as I was following the bicycle lane.

I decided to walk along the Hungarian side of the Danube (instead of Slovakia) because it was easier to find accommodation 🌼

Tomorrow I’ll reach a bigger city and then it’s very close to Budapest! :)

Day 15 ➡️ Dunaalmás 21km Today is a Nationa Day 15 ➡️ Dunaalmás 21km

Today is a National holiday here in Hungary so I had extra trouble finding something to eat 😃 but I was even happier to find one place that served me schnitzel.

I’m not sure if I get used to walking every day. My feet don’t stop hurting and my back hurts too. I don’t even carry a tent yet 🏕️

I’m still not sure about buying a tent in Budapest because some nights are gonna be 0-5 degrees and that’s pretty cold 😀 but also there are not enough guest houses on the way

I’ll get to Budapest first and then decide :)

Day 14 ➡️ Komarom The way to Komarom was very Day 14 ➡️ Komarom
The way to Komarom was very easy, along the bicycle lane.

Komárom and Komárno are located across each other connected by two bridges.

The two towns used to be a border crossing between Slovakia and Hungary but now you can just easily walk on the bridge.

The only thing that changes is the currency (Eur vs Huf). I Found a guest house on the Slovakian side so I was back to euro prices :) but in general I feel Hungary has the same prices.

Day 13 ➡️ Gönyü 19km Today’s tour was ve Day 13 ➡️ Gönyü 19km

Today’s tour was very easy and enjoyable. I feel much better and my health is coming back to 100%! I also crossed the 200km mark ✨

I still can’t believe that I’m so lucky with the weather 😀 that’s what I’m thinking about all the time 🌼

I arrived pretty early in Gönyü - enough time to plan the next days until Budapest. I have to book guest houses in advance because it’s off season. I wish it wasn’t so cold at night (otherwise I’d use a tent) but again, not complaining 🤓 I just wish I didn’t have to plan and organize so much in advance 📖

During my walk I spend around 8-10 hours outside e During my walk I spend around 8-10 hours outside every single day and it has given me a perspective that I seem to have forgotten. Sometimes I walk over fields for hours and I stop and just breathe.

Haven’t done this in a long time but it feels really good. And have I ever mentioned how much I appreciate this beautiful spring weather? 🌼

Day 11 ➡️ Györ 26km Today was the longest da Day 11 ➡️ Györ 26km

Today was the longest day of my entire life. 26km to Györ, a small student city near Budapest (they even have Mc Donald’s here).

The way took me along the bicycle route and I saw a few bikers. I’m again so lucky with the weather and I know it won’t stay like this forever 😀 so I’m trying to appreciate it.

The way is not difficult, but the loneliness is. This way is mentally more challenging than physically. And I’m saying this as someone who is used to be alone most of the time 😅

I’m taking a rest day here as the city is lovely. I’ll see you tomorrow! 🥰

Day 10 ➡️ Lipot 23km Today I had a lot of dou Day 10 ➡️ Lipot 23km
Today I had a lot of doubts and a shitty day:

 1. It’s much lonelier than expected
 2. It’s so expensive without a tent
 3. Everything hurts 🏃🏼‍♀️😀

I called my friends and cried a lot. That helped. Nevertheless I think it’s totally normal to feel this way.

It just feels like eternity and when I look at the map I don’t seem to move forward.

Tomorrow is gonna be a new and better day! :) see you 🥰

Today started with a ginger shot as my head is still full and heavy but I feel better and ready to continue 🏃🏼‍♀️

It was a pleasant walk through forest along the Danube river. As usual it was quite lonely and I didn’t meet anybody on the way.

Fortunately I found a hostel on the river! It was quite a special accommodation :) now Im tired and ready to sleep

See you tomorrow 🥰

Day 07 📍Bratislava Today I felt much better an Day 07 📍Bratislava
Today I felt much better and used the evening to explore a bit of the city.

Bratislava is the capital city of Slovakia and is located in the southwestern part of the country. I was surprised that not even 500,000 people live in Bratislava.

It definitely felt like a small city!

One of the touristic sites that I saw: medieval Old Town, Bratislava Castle, St. Martin’s Cathedral.

I also came across lots of quirky statues: including the famous “Man at Work” statue and a Napoleon soldier statue but there were so many more.

Tomorrow I’ll continue my way towards Budapest :)

Day 5 23km ➡️ Bratislava Today was an exciti Day 5 23km ➡️ Bratislava

Today was an exciting day for 2 reasons:

 1. I passed my first 100km of walking
 2. I entered a new country: Slovakia! 🇸🇰

Today’s weather was a bit colder and windier than usual and I really felt like taking a break. So I walked to the last village before the border crossing: Wolfsthal and I had the best coffee ever in Fidi restaurant.

After the break I walked straight to the border and two cars stopped to support me and to say hello :) thanks guys!

I also met two hikers today and we had a great chat. Then a deer just jumped out of the forest in front of me.

The border crossing was very unspectacular : no welcome sign, not a single person, nothing. Olsun 😀

But therefore I saw 3 deers running on a field. Tonight I’m staying in Bratislava with my couchsurfing host and tomorrow I’ll take a rest day. 🥰 see you tomorrow

Day 4 ➡️ 22km Today was a very straight forw Day 4 ➡️ 22km

Today was a very straight forward hike. I really liked the guest house where I stayed (zur ungarischen Krone) and everyone is so friendly.

On my way I saw two rabbits and lots of ducks 😄 I caught a cold yesterday so today was a bit slower as my head was full and heavy.

On my way I came across an old castle where I decided to rest and drink a coffee. The owners insisted on giving the coffee for free for my long way to Istanbul! ☕️

I am just so happy that the weather is pushing me forward. I plan to be in Bratislava tomorrow to take a rest day.

Drinking lots of vitamin c, magnesium and ibuprofen 😅

See you tomorrow 🥰
